Scholarships

What is a Scholarship?

At Gordonstoun, we believe in nurturing talent and ambition. Our scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional ability, potential and the drive to make a positive impact -  both within our school community and beyond.

While scholarships are honorary and do not automatically include fee reductions, they come with a host of exclusive benefits that provide meaningful support and enrichment. These may include:

  • Free one-to-one music lessons (for Music Scholars)
  • Personalised coaching or mentoring in your chosen field
  • Access to national leadership events and bespoke development opportunities

In addition, scholars receive priority consideration for means-tested bursaries, giving them a strong pathway to financial support.

When Are Scholarships Awarded?

Scholarships are available for entry into:

  • Year 7 or Year 8 – Prep School

  • Year 9 or Year 12 – Senior School

Assessments take place in the academic year before entry and must be attended in person at Gordonstoun.

How Long Does a Scholarship Last?

Scholarships are intended to support students throughout their Gordonstoun journey. As long as scholars remain in good academic and behavioural standing, awards typically last for:

  • Year 7 or 8 Scholars: Until the end of Year 13, with reviews at key transition points (Years 9 and 12)
  • Year 9 Scholars: Until the end of Year 13, with a review at the start of Year 12
  • Year 12 Scholars: For both Year 12 and Year 13

Bursaries

What is a Bursary?

A bursary is a form of financial assistance that helps cover school fees. Funded by the school and its generous supporters. Bursaries are means-tested and do not need to be repaid.

Bursaries are designed to ensure that financial circumstances are never a barrier to attending Gordonstoun. We especially prioritise applications from students who have earned scholarships.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Financial Support Can I Receive?
While bursary awards can cover up to 100% of school fees, most grants fall between 10% and 25%. The most substantial awards are generally made to Sixth Form students (Years 12 and 13) so that we can extend support to as many families as possible.
Who is Eligible for a Bursary?

Our bursary funds are primarily allocated to scholarship recipients. Applying for a scholarship is the most effective route to being considered for additional financial support.

Gordonstoun has a proud history of service. Families with connections to the Armed Forces or Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) are automatically eligible for a 15% remission on net fees.
