Sixth Form
In arguably the most important academic years of their life, the Sixth Form programme is carefully balanced to deliver excellent exam results, outstanding opportunities and fun.
Our uniquely broad curriculum prepares our students for exams and for life, delivering well rounded individuals who go on to be responsible, compassionate and resilient global citizens.
At Gordonstoun, Oxbridge and Russell Group universities continue to be the primary aspiration for the majority of sixth‑form students, with around 3% of last year’s leavers progressing to Oxbridge. We offer structured, targeted support for competitive pathways, including dedicated sessions for Oxbridge, Medicine and US university applications, and we support a growing number of students applying to international universities worldwide.
That said, student choices remain notably diverse and evolving. In response to changing trends, including increased awareness of student debt and graduate employment challenges, we are seeing more students consider vocational routes, apprenticeships and direct entry into employment.
Alongside traditional academic pathways, students can pursue applied and specialist qualifications such as specific BTECs, a deer management diploma, LANTRA‑accredited tractor and chainsaw courses, and the British Wool Board Blue Seal qualification in sheep shearing. Destination outcomes range from degree apprenticeships with organisations such as DHL to full‑time employment with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
To address the modern graduate recruitment landscape, we run a dedicated Careers Programme for Year 12, supported by specialist Futures staff who ensure each student is guided towards the pathway best suited to them as an individual.
