Giving Day 2026 - Wow! Throughout the lead up, and the 48-hour period of giving day, it was go go go. For the Gordonstoun Association (GA) Captains, Giving Day started about a month prior to the actual event, with a great amount of planning before a sprint finish to get everything ready before Giving Day began. Over this time frame we became actors, video editors, and even event planners - somehow, we still managed to find some time to win the Gordonstoun Giving Day Quiz! |
During the 2-day period over which Giving Day ran, we oversaw the house challenges you were able to see on Instagram, sent out a few too many thank you videos, and you witnessed us surpass our fundraising goal. Despite these being difficult tasks, it was more than worth it. We were able to see firsthand the generosity and community surrounding Gordonstoun. Safe to say we all felt honoured to be involved in it.
The kindness we witnessed over the 2 days didn’t only come from donors but from the whole school community. Each boarding house was running challenges, from 48 hours of service, morning runs and cold showers, to learning 100 new skills. Students and members of staff were involved social media videos and each house took part in the giving day quiz in order to help us reach our goal. The sense of community that is always felt within Gordonstoun was amplified in these moments. This highlighted to us that Giving Day wasn’t only about raising funds for valuable causes, but it was about bringing the school community together.
During the final moments of giving day, being able to see our fundraising total tip over the £80,000 goal was an incredible moment. Everyone in that room felt extremely accomplished and proud that our hard work had paid off. The Captains were pleasantly surprised when this happened as at times, we did think that we were not going to reach our goal.
The funds raised this Giving Day are going to extremely worthwhile causes, including renovations and bursaries - two areas of the school where donations can make a real difference. Knowing that the money raised was going to these causes sparked a fire within the GA captains, as we knew that everything we were doing was ultimately for the greater good; to provide opportunities and improve school life for students.
Lastly, on behalf of the 2026 GA captains I would like to thank anyone who donated or was involved in making this giving day the success it was. Donations in these areas can truly make a student's Gordonstoun experience even more magical.
Betty I, Hopeman 2026 GA Captain.
